Research

Nick is interested in the topic areas of land use/land cover change; human-environment interactions; GIScience; and conservation/development.

Dr. Kohler's regional focus has been on the countries of mainland Southeast Asia, and the American West.

He is currently pursuing research on natural and cultural world heritage management, land use change in mainland Southeast Asia related to infrastructure development, and the use of crowdsourced 'volunteer geographic information' to aid in land cover monitoring.
