The Mongolian
Altai Inventory and its associated Mapping Project are based on
fourteen years of field research in mountainous Bayan Ölgiy
aimag, northwestern Mongolia. It is dedicated to the identification
and recording of all significant concentrations of surface archaeology
in that region and to the analysis of their typologies, probable
chronologies, and interconnection with the larger landscape.
This project will result in the publication
of the Cultural Atlas of the Ancient Mongolian Altai [ESRI Press].
