Tea Talk Feb 7th: Michael Watts

Please join the Department of Geography in welcoming Michael Watts, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Geography and Development Studies at UC Berkeley. He will give a talk entitled Life on the Edge: Accumulating insecurity Along Oil Frontiers.

 

Please join us for Tea Snacks at 3:30 pm in Condon 108, and after departmental announcements, we will then move to Chapman 220 for his talk at 4:00 pm.

Michael Watts in Emeritus Professor in Geography and in Development Studies at UC Berkeley. Central to his work is a longstanding engagement with the political economy of development, particularly in the energy and agro-food sectors in Africa. Most recently he has focused on the impact of oil in the Gulf of Guinea, especially in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, and the rise of insurgent movements.
