Course Description

  • Geog 620 and the winter term course Geog 621 are for beginning geography graduate students. These courses together provide an overview of the nature of geography as an academic discipline, contemporary issues and research trends in major subfields, research techniques used in geography, and historical development of theory and practice in geography.

  • The goal of these two courses is to support first-year graduate students in conceiving, planning, and conducting their own research projects, and in placing their research in the context of recent research in geography.

  • Through the companion course Geog 609: Practicum, students are introduced to University of Oregon Geography faculty.
