Field Course description:
This course is offered for 1 credit, P/N only. Registration is by instructor's consent. If your name was on the list for Geog 4/510 that was discussed in Geog 4/527 on Tuesday Jan. 12, you are authorized to register. If not, contact Pat McDowell. A field trip fee will be assessed to cover transportation (probably about $10 total).
Course requirement: Participation in two field trips, Saturday Feb. 20 and Sunday Feb. 28. On the first trip we will focus on surveying channel cross-sections and longitudinal profiles with an auto-level, use of current meters to measure velocity, and measuring gravel size distributions. On the second trip we'll focus on identifying and measuring channel units (habitat units). No written assignments or tests required.
On each day we will leave campus at about 7:30 or 8:00 am, travel by state van to the field site, and return to campus by 5:00 pm or earlier. You will need to bring lunch, rain gear, other clothing appropriate for being outside all day, rubber boots or waders if you have them (there will be a few loaner pairs if you don't have them).
Field sites have not yet been selected, but they will be small streams within 1 hour of Eugene. Stay tuned...
