- About the
Atlas
- The Atlas of Maps to Wineries of the Southern
Willamette Valley got its start in Professor Bill
Loy's Cartographic Methods class in 1994. Bill saw the
importance of allowing student cartographers the
opportunity to work on real-world projects that result
in useful products. Students produced maps using
manual techniques for single-ink print or photocopy
reproduction. Students were introduced to the concepts
of map compilation, design, and production. During
winter term of this year I carried on Bill Loy's
tradition of public service cartography and developed
a plan to create a Web-based atlas of maps to wineries
as the class project for the Advanced Cartography
class. This project served as a vehicle to teach map
design, production, and publishing issues encountered
in this new medium of distribution, the World Wide
Web. Enjoy touring the maps and of course the
wineries.
