NORTH COAST BASIN

The waters of the North Coast Basin flow directly to the Pacific Ocean. Unlike the Willamette River Basin which has one terminus into the Columbia River, the North Coast Basin has many terminuses into the Pacific Ocean.  The Oregon portion of the North Coast Basin is composed of seven sub-basins, three of which have a portion located within Lane County boundaries.

The three sub-basins in Lane County are divided into watersheds.  In the image above the sub-basins are listed from top to bottom:

Alsea Sub-basin
Siuslaw Sub-basin
Siltcoos Sub-basin

ALSEA SUB-BASIN

The Alsea sub-basin is composed of eight watersheds.  Yachats River, Cummins Creek / Tenmile Creek / Mercer Lake Frontal, and Five Rivers / Lobster Creek all have some portion within Lane County boundaries.

SIUSLAW SUB-BASIN

The Siuslaw sub-basin is composed of eight watersheds which are all within the boundaries of Lane County. Although technically a sub-basin, the Siuslaw River has its own watershed council.  The Siuslaw Watershed Council was chartered in 1996 with the mission; "The Siuslaw Watershed Council supports sound economic, social, and environmental uses of natural and human resources in the Siuslaw River basin."

SILTCOOS SUB-BASIN

The Siltcoos sub-basin is composed of only one watershed.  Only the northern half of Waohink River / Siltcoos River / Tahkenitch Lake Frontal watershed is within Lane County boundaries.
