Graduate Student Travel Funds
(No new applications are being accepted)
Funds are available for student travel to the 37th Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium in Columbia, SC, October 20-22, 2006. We anticipate granting up to15 awards of $200 to help defray travel costs for qualified graduate students. A small number (5 or fewer) of $400 grants will be provided to students who need air fare because the travel distance is too great for ground transport.
Awards will be given to students whose graduate research is on topics related to the conference theme or who have professional career interests (e.g., teaching, environmental consulting) consistent with the themes of the conference. Funds will not be available prior to attending the conference. Preference for all grants will be given to applicants who are presenting a poster at the symposium.
Applications: To be considered for a travel award, fill out the questionnaire/application form, get your advisor’s signature on it, and send it to W. Andrew Marcus at the address below. Review of applications will commence on September 1st, 2006, but will continue after that date. We encourage you to continue to submit applications through Sept 15, 2006, as we will continue to consider providing support if all the funds have not yet been awarded.
Nature and mechanics of awards. Processing of applications and notification of recipients will begin on September 1 so that you can make travel arrangements. Awards will be applied to registration fees ($35 for early registration before Aug. 31 or $50 afterwards) and the balance will be paid by check during or after the meeting. Students must register and attend the conference to qualify for payment of the award. Please note - this means we cannot provide you the funds prior to the conference date.
If you send questionnaires by e-mail (preferred), send them to: ajames@sc.edu and marcus@uoregon.edu Please, title the questionnaire file using your last name. For example, if I were sending a digital application as an e-mail attachment, I would title it: Marcus-application.
