Commemorating the 50th anniversary of

Man's Role in Changing the Face of the Earth with a new volume:

The Human Role in Changing Fluvial Systems, 2006.  Proceedings of the 37th Binghamton Symposium in Geomorphology, held in October, 2006.   Editors: James, L. A. and W. A. Marcus. Publisher: Elsevier.  Hardbound; 363 pages; in the traditional maroon color of the Binghamton book series.

The conference commemorated the 50th anniversary of Man's Role in Changing the Face of the Earth, a classic symposium on human impacts on the environment.  This book includes sixteen papers by leading experts on how humans have changed and are changing river systems.  After a retrospective look at  the past 50 years of human impact research on fluvial systems, the volume covers two broad categories of topics. Chapters on cumulative changes at regional scales cover global sediment fluxes, mountains around the world, the Andes, the contiguous United States, the American Midwest, and Mediterranean environments.  Chapters on specific drivers of change examine dam impacts, urbanization, mining, animals, wood in streams, climate change, channelization and base level lowering, and cultural geomorphology. Click here for a list of paper titles and abstracts and short biographies for the lead authors.

The cost of the volume is only $45 for one; two for $88; or three for $130.  These prices include book-rate postage within the lower 48 states of the USA.  Unfortunately, the U.S. Postal Service has just doubled to tripled rates for international mail, so please add $15 for single orders or $20 for two or three books.  This would make a great gift for the fluvial geomorphologist, earth scientist, or river manager in your life or for your favorite library.  This sale is a non-profit endeavor.  All proceeds beyond our costs will go to the Binghamton Steering Committee for future Binghamton meetings.

We are accepting credit card orders through Paypal.com.  If you register with Paypal, nobody (but Paypal) ever sees your credit card number.   PayPal is free for buyers but it would help me if you add $2/book to cover the incremental cost they charge on my end.   Otherwise, your cost will be the same terms as advertised ($45+2/book, $50+2/book overseas, etc.).  Paypal accepts ten different currencies.
If you decide to use Paypal, log onto Paypal.com and - if not already registered - sign up for a personal account.  You'll have to give them your credit card info.

When you're online, click the 'Send Money' tab and send xxx$ to my email:  AJames@sc.edu    [it serves as my ID as well.]
